Meet Sandra K-Horn
Sandra K-Horn has always been fascinated by the human stories hidden within history. Drawing on her years in education and journalism, she crafts novels that connect deeply with readers.
“I have written five books,” she shares. “My stories feature people whose characteristics you can recognize whether in yourself, someone you know, or someone you wish you did. I love writing about human resilience, emotion, and the unseen threads that connect us all.”
About Her Latest Book: The Lady in Gray
At the heart of Sandra’s latest novel lies a ghostly mystery inspired by real-life legends.
“The Lady in Gray was inspired by a ghost said to haunt Camp Chase Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio,” she explains. “It’s a Confederate cemetery dating back to the Civil War years of 1861 to 1865. No one knows who she was, and I wanted to give her both a story and a name.”
Through detailed research and vivid storytelling, Sandra reimagines the life behind the haunting, weaving a tale of love, loss, and remembrance that lingers long after the final page.
Her Writing Habits and Creative Process
Sandra’s writing process is fueled by deep research and a love for authenticity.
“I research intensely,” she says. “I often write outside, surrounded by nature it’s where I find the most inspiration. I also travel to the places I write about to ensure my settings feel as real as possible.”
This dedication to realism gives her historical novels a rich sense of place and emotional depth, drawing readers straight into the world she creates.
Authors Who Inspire Her
Sandra draws creative energy from some of literature’s most celebrated historical authors.
“In this book, I was inspired by Kristin Hannah (The Nightingale), Eric Larson (Demon Unrest), Stephen Crane (The Red Badge of Courage), and Michael Shaara (The Killer Angels),” she notes.
Her research also extends to primary sources. “I read many journals from soldiers who fought in the Civil War some of whom were at Camp Chase. These journals, found at the Ohioana Library, the Ohio Historical Society, and the Columbus Metropolitan Library, gave me a personal connection to the history I was writing about.”
What She’s Working on Now
Sandra’s creative energy continues to flow through new collaborations and ideas.
“I’m working on a project with a well-known abstract artist here in Columbus, Ohio,” she shares. “I’ll be the featured author in the show Ekphrasis at the Priscilla R. Tyson Cultural Arts Center in Fall 2027.”
Alongside her art collaboration, Sandra is exploring concepts for another historical novel centered around a strong, dynamic female protagonist a recurring theme in her work.
Promoting Her Books
When it comes to book promotion, Sandra takes a personal, community-driven approach.
“Facebook works best for my audience, with Instagram as a close second,” she says. “I also love connecting with book clubs. My stories tend to spark deep conversations, and hearing readers share their thoughts is incredibly rewarding.”

Sandra’s advice to aspiring writers is practical and heartfelt.

She also emphasizes the importance of creative intuition. “Follow your gut and stay the course when it comes to how you publish your work,” she adds.
