Where awesome readers meet awesome writers.

Today we’re thrilled to feature Rodney McNeil, an author from Fort Worth, Texas, whose poetic and insightful writing bridges the gap between human emotion and the digital age. Through his latest book, Analog Introspection (AI): The Experience, McNeil invites readers to pause, reflect, and rediscover what it truly means to be human in a hyper-connected world.

Meet Rodney McNeil

Rodney McNeil has written four books: Ro’Man’s Is Dead, The Candy Academy: Dream Candy, Eye Hate Essays, and his newest release, Analog Introspection (AI): The Experience. His work is known for its lyrical style, vivid imagery, and emotional depth.

When he isn’t writing, Rodney keeps an active lifestyle—strength training, golfing, bowling, and shooting pool. For him, these activities are more than hobbies; they’re a way to stay grounded and balanced in both body and mind.

The Inspiration Behind Analog Introspection (AI): The Experience

Rodney’s latest book was born out of observation. He watched the world grow increasingly digital—people glued to screens, constantly online, sharing everything yet connecting less.

“This is a hyper-digital society,” he explains. “We’re endlessly scrolling, always connected, cameras on everywhere. Technology has benefits, but it also blurs the line between privacy, identity, and purpose.”

Through this book, he explores the darker corners of modern life—social media addiction, surveillance culture, viral fame, and the loss of genuine reflection. “‘Analog’ represents our humanity,” he says, “and ‘Introspection’ stands for self-awareness. These are things we’re losing in a tech-driven world.”

His Writing Process

Rodney’s creative process has evolved with time. “I no longer write with pencil and paper,” he admits. “Since studying online in 2021, my process has become completely digital.”

Rather than taking notes, he prefers to internalize ideas and write directly from inspiration. His iPhone Notes app has become a pocket-sized writing studio, capturing raw ideas as they come. “Even if I pause for days, I can come back and still feel the same energy,” he adds.

Writers Who Inspire Him

Rodney’s influences span both classic and contemporary worlds. He admires Shakespeare for his dramatic irony, Edgar Allan Poe for his use of rhythm and tension, and Dr. Seuss for his playful yet impactful rhymes.

He’s also inspired by lyrical poets like 2Pac and Nas, who captured the psychological struggles of their communities through raw and poetic storytelling. “They blended art and truth,” he says. “That balance is what I aim for.”

Current Projects

Rodney is currently developing the next phase of Analog Introspection (AI): The Experience—a spoken word album. His goal is to let listeners hear and feel the emotional weight behind his poems.

“I’ve always wondered how words transform when spoken versus read,” he says. “This project will explore that difference.”

He’s also considering visual adaptations—videos and imagery to bring his poetry to life across multiple senses. In the future, he hopes to expand into an anime-inspired storytelling project and a podcast that weaves narrative and rhythm together.

Promoting His Work

When asked about the best ways to promote books, Rodney keeps it real. His Amazon Author Page and podcast interviews have been his strongest tools.

“Seeing your book on a professional platform validates your work,” he says. “And when people can see your face and hear your voice, it builds trust and connection. Speaking about my work has been the best promotion so far.”

Advice for New Authors

Rodney’s message to aspiring writers is simple: be yourself and find your voice.

“Your voice is your literary identity,” he says. “It’s what makes your writing stand out.”

He also encourages professionalism. “If you can, hire help for design, editing, and formatting. A polished presentation shows your respect for readers.”

And one final reminder: always protect your work. “Copyright everything and read every contract before signing. Art is emotional, but business is not.”

Words That Guide His Life

Rodney carries two pieces of advice close to his heart:
“Be yourself,” and “You’ll never know if you don’t try.”

“They sound simple, but they’ve shaped everything I do,” he reflects. “Success lives on the other side of trying. Failure only exists if you stop.”

What He’s Reading Now

At the moment, Rodney is reading Integrating Educational Technology into Teaching (8th Edition) by M.D. Roblyer and Joan E. Hughes. As he pursues a master’s degree in Educational Technology and Leadership, the book helps him explore new ways to make online learning more engaging for adult students.

If Stranded on a Desert Island…

If Rodney were stranded on an island, he’d take:

  • The Bible – for faith and strength.
  • Webster’s Dictionary – to keep his mind sharp.
  • How to Survive on a Deserted Island by Tim O’Shei – for practical guidance.
  • I Kill Giants by Joe Kelly – for its inspiring message about courage and belief.
