Meet LaPanda Mason

LaPanda Mason is an author with an undeniable passion for storytelling. What began as a simple dream to self-publish a book and see her name on the cover quickly grew into a deeper creative journey. Today, she has successfully self-published three books, each one a reflection of her imagination, determination, and personal growth as a writer.

“I just wanted to hold my own book in my hands,” LaPanda shares. “But the more I learned about writing and publishing, the more I fell in love with the process.”

Her stories are known for their honesty and emotional depth, exploring themes of love, resilience, and transformation.

The Story Behind Beast of Beauty

LaPanda’s latest book, Beast of Beauty, reimagines the timeless Beauty and the Beast tale with her own creative twist. Originally written for the KDP Series program, the project took a new direction after the program ended. Instead of shelving it, she decided to publish it as a novella.

“It’s my version of Beauty and the Beast,” she explains. “A story about love, redemption, and the hidden beauty that lives within imperfection.”

Writing Habits and Creative Process

When asked about her writing habits, LaPanda laughs. “My friends think it’s weird that I can write with the TV on,” she says. “I don’t need silence. I can tune everything out when I’m in my zone.”

Her approach to writing is flexible and intuitive focused more on flow than on rigid structure. “I write when inspiration hits,” she says. “Once I’m in it, everything else fades away.”

Literary Influences

LaPanda’s literary influences are as diverse as her storytelling style. She credits Sister Souljah’s The Coldest Winter Ever as the first book that truly moved her. She also draws inspiration from Maya Angelou, whose poetry taught her that powerful writing doesn’t require a formal education it requires heart.

Other authors who have influenced her include Eric Jerome Dickey, Terry McMillan, and Stephen King. “Stephen King’s imagination blows my mind,” she says. “He proves that storytelling has no limits.”

What She’s Working On Now

LaPanda is currently writing a memoir centered on her relationship with her sisters following the passing of their mother. The book delves into themes of grief, family, and mental health, particularly within the Black community.

“I want to shine a light on how many people struggle silently,” she says. “There’s still a stigma around mental health, and I want to help change that through my story.”

Promoting Her Work

LaPanda admits she’s still learning the best ways to promote her books. “I’m figuring it out as I go,” she says honestly. “But I believe that as long as I stay consistent, readers will find me.”

Advice for Aspiring Authors

Her advice for new authors is both practical and encouraging: “Stay motivated and keep moving forward.”

She acknowledges the challenges of balancing a full-time job with creative work. “It takes real self-discipline,” she explains. “You come home tired from work, but you still have to sit down and write. That’s where passion turns into perseverance.”

The Best Advice She’s Ever Heard

LaPanda lives by the words “Don’t give up.” She understands firsthand how demanding the publishing world can be. “It takes dedication and patience to be noticed in this industry,” she says. “But if you keep going, your voice will be heard.”

What She’s Reading

At the moment, LaPanda is reading The Common Sense Guide to Happiness, a book that aligns perfectly with her focus on self-reflection, growth, and emotional wellness.

What’s Next for LaPanda Mason

LaPanda’s next big project is completing her memoir a heartfelt, vulnerable exploration of grief, family bonds, and healing. She also hints that her creative plans for the following year are already taking shape. “This memoir is my focus for now,” she says. “But next year, I’m ready for something new.”

Books She Would Take to a Desert Island

When asked what books she would take if stranded on a desert island, LaPanda smiles. “That’s a tough one,” she says. “But I’d definitely bring the stories that remind me of strength and survival because that’s what life, and writing, are all about.”
