A teacher, science enthusiast, and newly published author, Jeremy has transformed his personal challenges with ADHD and Dysgraphia into a creative superpower. His books brim with imagination, friendship, and heart
proof that great stories often come from overcoming great obstacles.
Meet Jeremy Scholz
Jeremy Scholz describes himself as a storyteller at heart. Though his path to writing wasn’t easy, his perseverance and creativity have led to remarkable results.
“I struggled as a student,” he shares. “I developed coping strategies just to get by. Only recently, after being diagnosed with ADHD and Dysgraphia, did things start to make sense.”
With treatment and new writing strategies, Jeremy’s long-held ideas began to flow freely. “Stories I had in my head for years quickly became books,” he says. To date, he has released three titles:
- I Have an Idea!
- The Apple and the Infinite
- Alex in the Annex
About His Latest Book: Alex in the Annex
Jeremy’s newest novel, Alex in the Annex, is a story born from a deep, universal desire to escape and belong.
“At its core, this book came from a feeling of wanting to get away,” he explains. “I’ve always imagined having superpowers flying, reading minds, or doing something extraordinary. That longing, I realize now, was tied to feeling different, even before I knew why.”
In Alex in the Annex, Jeremy channels that sense of difference into a story that celebrates friendship, loyalty, and self-discovery. The book blends humor, adventure, and heartfelt emotion, making it both fun and deeply meaningful.
Inside His Writing Habits
Jeremy’s writing process is intense, and he admits it’s not for everyone.
“This past summer, I hyper-focused,” he says. “I wrote seven days a week, sixteen hours a day. It’s both a gift and a curse.”
The result of that creative burst? Four near-complete manuscripts. Now that he’s back to teaching, he’s adjusted his schedule. “I wake up between three and five in the morning,” he shares. “That gives me four or five quiet hours to write before work starts.”
His commitment reflects his belief that passion, when harnessed with discipline, can overcome any limitation.
Authors Who Inspire Him
Jeremy’s influences span genres and generations.
He credits Anne McCaffrey for her unmatched world-building, Ray Bradbury for his poetic and dreamlike style, and Piers Anthony for humor and whimsical storytelling.
“I also admire George Orwell,” he adds. “His writing is so readable, yet so profound. That’s the balance I strive for clarity with depth.”
Current Projects
Jeremy’s next big project is Aries I – The King of Mars, a science fiction story inspired by his love of teaching and the mysteries of space.
“As a science teacher, I’ve used Mars as a theme for lessons about motion, gravity, and homeostasis,” he explains. “Over time, I built a story around those ideas but I didn’t want it to be just another ‘Martian’ story. This one has its own heart and message.”
Aries I will also be the first in a planned series that explores humanity, technology, and resilience through the lens of interplanetary adventure.
Promoting His Books
Like many new authors, Jeremy is still experimenting with the best ways to reach readers.
“Some days it feels like I’m shouting into a storm,” he admits. “I post on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. I’ve sent emails, letters, and even press releases.”
Despite the challenges, he’s making steady progress. “Marketing takes time away from writing, and that’s hard,” he says, “but every connection matters.”
Advice for New Authors
Jeremy’s advice is heartfelt and practical:
“Perfection is the enemy. Reach out for help. Listen to your beta readers, and trust your editor assuming you have a good one. Put yourself out there and trust your story.”
He believes collaboration and humility are key to growing as a writer. “You don’t have to do everything alone,” he adds. “Writing is personal, but publishing is a team effort.”
The Best Advice He’s Ever Heard
Jeremy recalls a simple but powerful quote from one of his mentors, Shari Dee:
“Write anything. Write badly. Just do it.”
“It’s about momentum,” he explains. “Once you start, the fear fades. The important thing is to keep creating.”
What He’s Reading Now
Right now, Jeremy is reading The Yellow Bus by Jennie Durkee a book he describes as “deeply moving and beautifully written.”
“She’s a mentor and friend,” he says warmly. “Her ability to make readers care about her characters is something I truly admire.”
What’s Next for Jeremy Scholz
As Jeremy continues balancing his teaching career and writing passion, he admits the pace might eventually slow down.
“I’ll probably hit a creative crash at some point,” he laughs. “The upside of ADHD is that I’m never short on ideas the downside is I burn through energy fast.”
Still, his excitement for future projects is clear. “I have no plans to stop. Every idea is a new adventure waiting to happen.”
If Stranded on a Desert Island
If Jeremy could bring only a few books with him, his choices reflect his thoughtful nature:
- Life of Pi by Yann Martel, for inspiration and survival.
- Lord of the Flies by William Golding, to remind him to hold onto humanity.
- Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, for stoic wisdom and mental strength.
