Where awesome book readers meet awesome writers
Meet Chris Cullen
Chris Cullen is a former professional baseball player who turned his passion for performance and leadership into a mission to inspire others. Originally from Canada, he has been living in the United States since he was 17 years old.
After more than a decade at Stryker Medical, where he excelled in both sales and leadership roles, Chris decided to carve his own path. Today, he works as a speaker, coach, and author, helping people transform the way they think, speak, and lead.
He has written three books so far, the most recent being “I Get To: Change Your Words, Change Your Life”, released in August 2025. His work focuses on personal growth, mindset, and the power of language in shaping our reality.
The Story Behind I Get To
The idea for I Get To was born from one of the toughest challenges of Chris’s life. Two years before publishing the book, he completed a full Ironman triathlon while battling the flu. He was hospitalized just two days before the race began, but his mindset carried him through.
“I used this way of thinking ‘I get to’ instead of ‘I have to’ as a crutch to endure the hardest day of my life,” Chris shares. “After that, I wanted to understand what really happens in our brains when we choose this mindset.”
The experience led him on a deep dive into psychology, neuroscience, and personal reflection. The result is a book that helps readers reframe challenges and transform their inner dialogue into one of gratitude and strength.
Writing Habits That Keep Him Creative
Chris’s writing process is as dynamic as his personality. His creativity often takes physical form in the form of hundreds of sticky notes.
“If 300 sticky notes covering your living room counts as unusual, I guess I don’t want to be normal,” he laughs.
Each note represents a thought, phrase, or breakthrough that eventually finds its way into his writing.
Authors Who Inspire Him
Several powerful voices have influenced Chris’s mindset and approach to writing:
- Mel Robbins and her empowering book Let Them
- Yung Pueblo and his reflective work Lighter
- Viktor Frankl, whose classic Man’s Search for Meaning continues to guide readers in finding purpose through struggle
These authors inspired Chris to explore the relationship between mindset, meaning, and human potential core themes in I Get To.
What He’s Working on Now
Right now, Chris is taking a moment to celebrate the successful launch of I Get To. But true to form, he’s already preparing for what’s next.
“I’m working on a new book about being addicted to outcomes and how to conquer that obsession,” he says.
This upcoming project will explore how people can detach their self-worth from achievements and learn to find fulfillment in the process itself.
Promoting His Work
When it comes to marketing, Chris keeps things simple and personal.
“I tap into my network and use Amazon. Nothing crazy. I like bootstrapping my projects for some odd reason.”
He believes authenticity and genuine relationships are far more effective than flashy promotions.
Advice for Aspiring Authors
Chris’s advice for new writers is refreshingly straightforward:
“Just write. The days you’re stuck, write one truth. Consistency makes the good days flow.”
He emphasizes that progress doesn’t require perfection it just requires showing up, one sentence at a time.
The Best Advice He Has Ever Heard
One piece of wisdom has stayed with Chris throughout his life and career:
“We have the ability to imagine things, but we can’t prove what didn’t happen. So just take action. Take the step and let the path unveil itself.”
It’s a reminder that overthinking can paralyze progress, while action creates clarity.
What He’s Reading Now
Chris is currently reading “Good Awkward” by Henna Pryor, a book that explores how embracing discomfort can lead to confidence and growth.
What’s Next for Chris Cullen
In addition to his upcoming book, Chris is busy speaking at events across North America, sharing the transformative message behind I Get To. Through storytelling and mindset training, he helps audiences recognize how a small shift in language can lead to massive change.
“I Get To isn’t just a book,” he says. “It’s a mindset that can change how you experience every single day.”
