Where awesome book readers meet awesome writers.
Meet A.K. Kubica, a fantasy author whose imagination was forged in the fires of Tolkien’s Middle-earth and tempered by ancient myths from Greece, Rome, and the Norse sagas. With her debut novel, Creed of Legends: Book 1 of the Tales of Fear & Fortitude, Kubica invites readers into a world of mythology, magick, philosophy, and political intrigue all while exploring what it means to stand brave in the face of destiny.
Meet A.K. Kubica
A.K. Kubica has been captivated by epic worlds like The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter since childhood. Those tales inspired her lifelong fascination with ancient mythology and the courage of flawed heroes.
“I fell in love with myths from Greece, Rome, and Norse legends. Eventually, I wanted to build a world of my own one filled with gods, magic, and moral dilemmas,” she says.
She has published one novel so far and is currently writing the second installment in her ongoing fantasy series, Tales of Fear & Fortitude.
About Her Debut Novel: Creed of Legends
Creed of Legends: Book 1 of the Tales of Fear & Fortitude blends mythology, philosophy, and political intrigue with a spark of magick and mystery.
“The story draws heavily from Ancient Greece, especially the Trojan War, and mixes it with medieval English influences,” Kubica explains.
Her world is built on ancient myth and complex moral tension. The book’s alternating viewpoints and layered storytelling reflect her admiration for Hilari Bell’s Farsala Trilogy and Anne Bishop’s Black Jewels Trilogy.
“Of course, Tolkien’s fingerprints are all over my writing,” she admits proudly. “He made me fall in love with the beauty of worldbuilding and the power of myth.”
Writing Habits That Work
Kubica’s creative process thrives on focus and confinement.
“I write best when I can’t escape literally,” she says with a laugh. “If I’m locked in a library study room or on a long car ride, my brain finally quiets down and focuses.”
A favorite ritual accompanies her writing: a Starbucks Refresher, her go-to creative fuel.
“There’s just something about having it next to me. It’s like flipping a switch the ideas start flowing.”
Literary Influences
Kubica’s bookshelf is a map of her imagination.
- J.R.R. Tolkien – for his unmatched worldbuilding and deep moral themes.
- Dave Duncan – for his political complexity and his exploration of duty versus morality.
- Hilari Bell and Anne Bishop – for their layered character perspectives and rich storytelling.
“Tolkien taught me to dream, and Duncan taught me to complicate those dreams,” she explains. “Good versus evil is too simple. I like stories that live in the gray.”
What She’s Working on Now
Kubica is currently deep into writing Book Two of the Tales of Fear & Fortitude, with a rough draft already completed.
“I’m about to enter my favorite phase revision lockdown,” she shares. “I’ll shut myself away and reforge the story line by line.”
At the same time, she’s busy fulfilling Kickstarter backer rewards for her deluxe special edition of Creed of Legends.
“Working with artists and designers to bring the book to life has been magical,” she says. “The marketing part? Maybe not as much. But every indie author learns that storytelling is only half the battle.”
Best Platforms for Book Promotion
For Kubica, Kickstarter has been the most rewarding promotional tool.
“If you can create a stunning edition, Kickstarter lets the book sell itself,” she explains.
She also connects with readers on Instagram, where she posts updates, runs polls, and answers fan questions.
“Even with a small following, the enthusiasm is real. Every comment and question keeps me motivated.”
Advice for New Authors
“Doubt is the killer of creativity,” Kubica says firmly. “When you let go of the fear that your writing isn’t good enough, you finally start writing for joy and that’s when you become a better storyteller.”
She encourages new writers to write for themselves first and to stop measuring their worth by comparison.
The Best Writing Advice She’s Ever Received
“Just write.”
Kubica admits she once rolled her eyes at the simplicity of this advice.
“I thought it was sarcastic or dismissive,” she says. “But I eventually realized it means something deeper: you are the creator of your own story. Stop waiting for permission. Begin.”
What She’s Reading Now
Kubica enjoys reading both fiction and nonfiction depending on her mood.
- The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
- The Time Traveler’s Guide to Medieval England by Ian Mortimer
“I like to balance mythic emotion with grounded history,” she says. “It keeps both sides of my brain happy.”
What’s Next for A.K. Kubica
Her priority is finishing the Tales of Fear & Fortitude series, which she envisions as three or four books depending on how the final story unfolds.
“I want to end the series in a way that feels complete but still leaves room for future stories in this world,” she explains.
Beyond that, she hopes to expand her mythic universe with new legends and companion stories that explore the same world from fresh perspectives.
Desert Island Book Choices
If stranded on a deserted island, Kubica knows exactly which tomes she would bring:
- The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
- The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling
“Yes, I’m cheating a little with the omnibus versions,” she laughs. “But if I’m going to be stranded, I need enough magic and heroism to last me a lifetime.”

Final Thoughts
With Creed of Legends, A.K. Kubica introduces readers to a world where mythology, magick, and moral conflict intertwine. Her stories celebrate courage, loyalty, and the shades of gray between duty and desire.
As she continues her Tales of Fear & Fortitude saga, Kubica proves that the spirit of epic fantasy is alive and well not just in the realms of heroes and gods, but in the hearts of those daring enough to create their own legends.
