Meet Jenny Worstall

British author Jenny Worstall brings wit, warmth, and Regency charm to her storytelling. With a deep affection for her hometown of Bath, Jenny writes both historical and contemporary romances that celebrate love, independence, and second chances.

She has written seven pocket novels published by DC Thomson, with five later republished as Linford Romance large print library books. Most recently, she captured readers’ hearts with her Regency Romance series, The Heart of Bath, published by Dragonblade. The series includes:

  • Lost and Found
  • Breaking Free
  • Starting Again

Each novel reflects Jenny’s signature blend of humor, heart, and historical elegance.

The Inspiration Behind Starting Again

Jenny’s latest book, Starting Again, concludes The Heart of Bath trilogy. The story was inspired by her childhood memories of Bath, a city steeped in Georgian architecture and romance.

“Number 1 The Royal Crescent has always fascinated me,” she shares. “It’s not just a setting it’s a character in itself. Some of my fictional families live there, and it’s also where the Featheringtons from Bridgerton reside.”

Witnessing part of Bridgerton being filmed in Bath rekindled Jenny’s love for Regency storytelling. And, as she notes, “In her 250th anniversary year, who could fail to be inspired by Jane Austen herself?”

A Unique Writing Routine

Jenny’s writing routine is as disciplined as it is creative. “I prefer standing at my desk it keeps my back happy,” she says with a laugh. She also uses voice dictation for her first drafts, allowing her to write freely while walking outdoors.

“I’ve received some very strange looks while dictating romantic scenes in the park,” she admits. “But it’s a wonderful way to let ideas flow naturally.”

Literary Influences and Reading Inspiration

Jenny’s greatest literary influence is, unsurprisingly, Jane Austen. “This year marks Austen’s 250th anniversary, so she’s on everyone’s mind,” Jenny says.

Her reading tastes range from the classics to contemporary favorites. Recently, she’s enjoyed Bitter Orange by Claire Fuller and The Cruise Club by Caroline James, both offering engaging, emotionally rich storytelling.

Jenny is also part of a supportive circle of writers known as The Surrey Buddies, which includes authors Linda Corbett, Jennifer Bibby, Alison Sherlock, Nina Barclay, Sally Harris, and Cara Cooper. “We exchange ideas, share our wins, and, of course, gossip a bit too!”

What She’s Working on Now

Jenny is currently working on a contemporary romantic comedy inspired by Jane Eyre with a touch of Notting Hill.

“It’s about a woman running from her past and a man stuck in his own,” she teases. “It’s romantic, funny, and a little bit self-aware the kind of love story that reminds you it’s never too late to start again.”

Promoting Her Books

For Jenny, social media has been the most effective way to connect with readers. She regularly engages with her audience on Instagram and Facebook, where she shares updates, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and snippets from her writing life.

“I love hearing directly from readers,” she says. “Those conversations often inspire new ideas.”

Advice for New Authors

Jenny’s advice is simple yet profound: “Never give up.”

“There are millions of potential readers out there,” she says. “Your story will find the right audience just keep writing and believing in it.”

The Best Writing Advice She’s Ever Received

Jenny loves to quote author Somerset Maugham, who once said:

“There are three rules for writing a novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are.”

“It’s so true,” she laughs. “There’s no secret formula. You just have to trust your instincts and write from the heart.”

What She’s Reading Now

Jenny is currently enjoying Coming Home to Maple Tree Lodge by Alison Sherlock. “It’s everything I love in a feel-good romance heartwarming, funny, and set in a world readers never want to leave.”

What’s Next for Jenny Worstall

Jenny’s next project is still under wraps, but she hints that it will continue blending humor, romance, and emotional depth. “I have ideas brewing,” she says. “Let’s just say I’ll be staying close to the themes of hope and renewal.”

Books She Would Take to a Desert Island

If stranded on a desert island, Jenny would bring:

  • Persuasion by Jane Austen – her all-time favorite novel.
  • Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë – her second favorite.
  • Anything by Gill Hornby, whose books she adores.
  • And one surprise book, something entirely new. “I’d want to challenge myself and read outside my comfort zone,” she says.
