Meet Sammy Adami
Author Sammy Adami has spent years exploring the depths of consciousness, identity, and technology through his writing. What began as a personal dialogue with his inner voices has evolved into a series of thought-provoking works that blend memoir, philosophy, and speculative fiction.
To date, Sammy has written three books: Building My Avatar, Health Memory Dramedy, and his newest release, Emergence at the VUE. Rather than traditional life stories, these books are immersive explorations of what it means to be human in a digital age.
“I’ve never wanted to write neat, linear memoirs,” he says. “I’m more interested in letting readers walk through the tangled corridors of my mind to question what’s real, what’s memory, and what’s machine.”
The Story Behind Emergence at the VUE
Sammy’s latest book, Emergence at the VUE, takes readers inside the VUE, a digital world where his avatars live, think, and argue with him.
The inspiration came from a convergence of experiences: the psychological aftermath of war, the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, and his own search for meaning at midlife.
“The VUE is more than a setting,” Sammy explains. “It’s a metaphor for how we construct reality and how easily technology can mirror or distort that process. I wanted to capture what it feels like when your inner and digital worlds start to blur.”
Emergence at the VUE invites readers to question whether AI could one day understand us better than we understand ourselves and what that means for identity, creativity, and truth.
Writing Habits That Defy Convention
Sammy’s writing process is anything but ordinary. “I hold full conversations with characters who don’t exist,” he admits with a smile. “My AI twin and the Guardian who manages access to the VUE often interrupt me while I’m writing to argue about what happens next.”
These internal dialogues often make their way into his books, adding a layer of surreal realism that mirrors the way modern minds navigate constant noise, information, and reflection.
Literary Influences and Inspirations
Sammy’s creative foundation is built on an eclectic mix of literary and philosophical influences.
He cites Karl Ove Knausgård for raw introspection, Italo Calvino for imaginative structure, and Virginia Woolf for her stream-of-consciousness style. He’s also inspired by memoirs like When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi for its honesty, and by works that tackle the future of humanity such as Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari and The Age of Surveillance Capitalism by Shoshana Zuboff.
“And then,” he adds, “there are the voices in my own head, ViSam and Rami Digitalis, who influence me just as much as any author I’ve read.”
Current Projects: Expanding the VUE
Sammy’s focus now is on expanding the VMC Universe Explorer, or VUE, an interactive extension of his Voices of a Midlife Crisis series.
The VUE isn’t just a fictional space; it’s becoming a digital world readers can experience. Sammy envisions it as an interactive platform where fans can:
- Engage with characters such as his AI twin or receive cryptic clues from the Guardian.
- Solve puzzles and play narrative games unlocking hidden chapters and storylines.
- Explore digital diaries to discover secrets and alternate perspectives.
- Experience it in virtual reality walking through the world of the VMC series.
“My goal,” he says, “is to turn storytelling into a living, evolving experience where the reader isn’t just an observer, but a participant.”
Promoting His Work Through Connection
For Sammy, the best promotion doesn’t happen through ads, it happens through conversation.
“Book clubs have been the most effective way to reach readers,” he says. “They don’t just read; they dissect, debate, and live with the story. When people talk about identity and AI long after they’ve finished the book, that’s success to me.”
He often joins these discussions in person or online, creating meaningful connections that transform readers into advocates for his work.
Advice for New Authors
Sammy’s advice to aspiring writers is refreshingly honest:
“Write because it brings you joy, not because you expect it to pay the bills. Very few writers make a living solely from book sales. Write because you have something to say or because you want to entertain, and the right readers will find you.”
He also emphasizes a healthy balance with technology. “Use AI as a partner, not a replacement. Let it spark ideas, not define your voice.”
The Best Writing Advice He’s Ever Received
“The best advice I’ve ever heard,” Sammy says, “is to merge with AI but never surrender to it. Use it to amplify your creativity, not to erase your humanity. That’s the essence of Emergence at the VUE: finding harmony between machine and mind.”
What He’s Reading Now
Sammy’s current reading list reflects his fascination with consciousness and artificial intelligence. On his desk right now are:
- The Feeling of Life Itself by Christof Koch
- Life 3.0 by Max Tegmark
- Being You by Anil Seth
“These books challenge how we define awareness and existence,” he says. “They feed both my curiosity and my writing.”
What’s Next for Sammy Adami
Next, Sammy plans to strengthen the VMC series and continue developing the VUE into a fully interactive platform. He’s also exploring partnerships with agents and publishers to expand his reach while maintaining creative independence.
“I love self-publishing because it gives me control,” he explains. “But I’m also open to collaboration if it means freeing up more time for the creative process. My goal is to build something lasting, a hybrid of literature, technology, and human emotion.”
Books He Would Take to a Desert Island
If stranded on a desert island, Sammy would choose books that feed both the mind and the spirit:
- SAS Survival Handbook by John “Lofty” Wiseman, because survival comes first.
- The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, for wit, wisdom, and practicality.
- Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond, to understand the rise and fall of civilizations.
“These books remind me that even in isolation, knowledge keeps the mind alive.”
