Andrew D. Thompson is a former professional squash player, long-time high-performance coach, and former executive in the hospitality industry. Throughout his diverse career, one passion has guided him above all others the human mind and its potential to perform at the highest level.

In 2016, his understanding of mental and physical strength was put to the ultimate test. A rare illness left him bedridden for nearly five months, spending over 22 hours a day confined to bed. It took more than eight years for him to recover fully, a journey he accomplished through perseverance, discipline, and a specialized diet he developed himself.

Now, with his health restored, Andrew shares his knowledge and experience through his writing, teaching others how to unlock their best selves and live with purpose.

The Inspiration Behind A High-Performing Mind

Andrew’s debut book, A High-Performing Mind, draws from over thirty years of working with elite performers across sports, business, and personal development.

“There were consistent methods and proven ways to get the best out of ourselves,” he explains. “I wanted to share them so others could recover, overcome adversity, and perform at their best.”

The book offers practical tools for achieving goals and living a happier, more fulfilling life by mastering focus, discipline, and mindset.

Writing Habits That Keep Him Focused

Andrew approaches writing with the same mental discipline that guided his athletic and coaching career. He doesn’t believe in elaborate rituals or complicated setups just consistency and clarity.

“I enjoy writing. Most times, it flows naturally and I have more ideas than I can use. The challenge is choosing the ones that will connect most with people.”

His process emphasizes flow and authenticity, allowing his message to stay focused and accessible to readers.

“That’s still up for debate,” he admits. “Amazon and Meta ads are effective, but not cheap. I’m still searching for that high-return method.”

His goal is to find sustainable ways to reach readers who are looking for genuine tools to improve their mindset and life performance.

Advice for New Authors

Andrew believes that feedback from readers is one of the most valuable resources an author can have.

“Listen to your reviews,” he advises. “Making adjustments based on feedback helps ensure your ratings go in the right direction.”

For him, writing is not a one-time effort but a continuous process of growth and refinement.

The Best Advice He Has Ever Heard

Andrew credits much of his resilience and discipline to the lessons he learned from his father.

“My dad always told me to work hard,” he says. “That mindset has stayed with me and shapes everything I do.”

He adds that accepting setbacks and moving quickly toward constructive solutions is the best approach to achieving goals.

“Things go wrong that’s life. What matters is how fast you shift from frustration to problem-solving.”

What He’s Reading Now

Interestingly, Andrew isn’t reading much at the moment, and he doesn’t necessarily recommend reading extensively for everyone.

“Knowing theories won’t get you anywhere,” he explains. “You have to take concrete action and follow a systematic plan. That’s what A High-Performing Mind is all about.”

He believes that consistent, focused effort beats endless consumption of new ideas.

Andrew’s immediate focus is to complete A High-Performing Mind for Teens and continue building awareness around his current book.

He remains committed to helping people master performance, both mentally and emotionally, through the same principles that helped him recover and rebuild his life.

“There’s no silver bullet,” he says. “You just have to put the time and effort in every day. A year from now, you’ll be amazed how far you’ve come.”
