Where awesome book readers meet awesome writers
Meet Joshua Clark
Joshua Clark is a retired military veteran who served twenty years before settling in Portland, Oregon. There, he built a full and meaningful life with his wife, six children, and two cats. A devoted Catholic, Joshua’s writing reflects his values faith, family, and perseverance.
When he’s not working on his next book, you’ll likely find him drawing, reading, or watching movies. Writing has become his way to inspire and uplift others, blending imagination with the deeper themes of hope and growth. Over the years, Joshua has written fifteen books, each one exploring new facets of human emotion, courage, and purpose.
The Inspiration Behind A Taste for Death: Death Becomes Her
Joshua’s latest novel, A Taste for Death: Death Becomes Her, was born from a single thought-provoking question: What would happen if the victim had to help solve the case involving a serial killer?
That intriguing idea set the foundation for a story that bends traditional mystery tropes, blending psychological suspense with moral reflection. The book explores what happens when the line between life and death blurs and when truth demands a voice from the other side.
Writing Habits That Shape His Process
Joshua admits he has an unusual writing rhythm. Often, inspiration strikes in the middle of a chapter for a scene that belongs much later in the book. When that happens, he immediately writes it down, even if it means re-shaping large parts of the manuscript later.
“It leads to a lot of discarded material,” he says, “but every scene teaches me something. Maybe someday I’ll release those lost chapters separately.”
He embraces the chaos of creativity, knowing that not every idea fits the story but every idea contributes to his growth as a writer.
Authors Who Inspire His Craft
Joshua credits Stephen King as one of his biggest influences, admiring King’s ability to weave complex emotion into compelling fiction. Although Joshua hasn’t written a horror novel yet, he hints that one might be on the horizon.
He also draws inspiration from Nicholas Sansbury Smith and Jonathan Maberry, both known for their vivid storytelling and strong character development. Their work motivates him to push his own creative boundaries and keep improving his craft.
Current Writing Projects
Joshua always has several projects in motion. Right now, he is balancing three books:
- Whispers of the Mountain – a new shapeshifting fantasy novel and the start of a brand-new series.
- Robyn Hood: Queen of Thieves – the sixth installment of his Navaerian Chronicles.
- The Lighthouse Between Us – the second book in his Bellmare Cove series.
Each project allows him to explore different genres and emotional tones, from adventure and fantasy to introspection and love.
Promoting His Work
Like many authors, Joshua is still exploring the best ways to promote his books. He’s currently experimenting with various online platforms and remains optimistic about connecting with new readers through AwesomeGang.com and other author networks.
“Cross your fingers, readers,” he jokes. “Maybe this is where it all takes off.”
Advice for Aspiring Authors
Joshua’s advice to new writers is direct and motivating:
“Write, write, write. It will never be perfect. At some point, you have to pull the chute and publish.”
He believes that chasing perfection holds many writers back. The goal is to finish, polish, and publish then keep improving with every book.
“You can always revise later, but you can’t revise what doesn’t exist.”
The Best Advice He Has Ever Heard
Joshua lives by a simple mantra shared by one of his mentors:
“Write, write, write, and publish. It will never be perfect.”
This reminder helps him focus on consistency and progress rather than chasing impossible standards.

What’s Next for Joshua Clark
For Joshua, the next step is simple but meaningful: to become a better writer. He’s proud of what he has accomplished but knows there is always more to learn.
“There are flashes of wonder in what I’ve written,” he says, “but I’m still working toward the level of the authors I admire.”
That humility and dedication continue to drive his evolution as both a storyteller and a person of faith.
