Where Awesome Book Readers Meet Awesome Writers
About Jordan Standridge
Jordan Standridge’s journey as a writer began in the most unexpected way back in elementary school, when she met real-life children’s author Crystal Thrasher. By that time, she was already writing short stories and poems, but hearing Thrasher talk about the challenges of getting published changed her life.
One of Jordan’s teachers handed Thrasher a handwritten book of poems and asked her to read it. The author did more than that she marked her favorite pieces in red ink, a gesture that left a lifelong impression. To this day, Jordan signs all her books with a red pen, in honor of the woman who inspired her to never give up.
She has written under another name for several years, but her most recent focus has been on novel writing. Her “Women of Strength, Courage, and Hope” series includes two published titles so far, with a third coming soon. The Witness is one of her proudest works, and the series continues to grow, reflecting her passion for stories that explore resilience and transformation.
The Inspiration Behind The Witness
Jordan’s latest novel, The Witness, is a blend of crime, suspense, mystery, and romance. Interestingly, it was written nearly a decade ago while she was working as a service technician and driving more than 6,000 miles a month across six states.
One day, while on the highway, she saw a police officer pulling someone over and wondered, “What if that officer were in danger? Would I stop? Could I help?” That single thought sparked the story’s foundation.
Years later, after leaving that job, Jordan became a police and fire dispatcher, an experience that brought her even closer to the world of law enforcement. The officers she worked with encouraged her creativity and even joked that she’d make a great detective. Those real-life insights shaped the heart and authenticity of The Witness.
After seven rewrites, she finally refined the story into its current form tight, emotional, and fast-paced. But she hasn’t forgotten the original version and plans to release the extended edition in the future.
Writing Habits and Creative Process
Jordan’s creative process is guided by intuition rather than routine. “I write when I’m inspired,” she says. “My best ideas come when I’m driving or just waking up from a dream.”
She doesn’t believe in strict schedules, preferring flexibility and spontaneity. Her writing environment is equally unique: she works best with background noise. “Silence distracts me,” she laughs. “If it’s too quiet, I start hearing everything the neighbor’s cat, the sound of a mailbox closing.”
Movies, especially Westerns, often play in the background as she writes. “TV shows have too many interruptions,” she says. “A good movie keeps me company while I write.”
Literary Influences
Jordan’s reading life has been rich and varied. Three authors in particular have deeply influenced her writing journey:
- Louis L’Amour, whose stories of courage and the frontier spirit shaped her love of adventure fiction.
- Julie Garwood, whose romance novels especially The Wedding captured her heart and storytelling sensibility.
- Walter Farley, creator of The Black Stallion series, who inspired her love for horses and character-driven storytelling.
She still treasures the day Julie Garwood personally replied to her emails, describing it as one of the highlights of her career. “I always make time to reply to readers who contact me,” she says. “I know exactly how much that connection means.”
Current Projects and Goals
Right now, Jordan is focused on promoting The Witness and reaching her goal of becoming a #1 Amazon author. Between marketing, full-time work, and writing, her schedule is packed but she thrives on it.
She’s also hard at work on book four of her series, along with several other novels in progress. “When inspiration hits, I drop everything and start writing,” she says. “Even if I can’t finish right away, I always record the idea. I can come back to it later when the well refills.”
Promoting Her Books
When it comes to book promotion, Jordan is both resourceful and relentless. She credits FreeBooksy as one of the most effective platforms she’s used so far, but admits that mastering marketing has been a learning curve.
She spends countless hours watching tutorials, joining author workshops, and following expert advice from names like Derek Doepker, Dave Chesson, Lise Cartwright, and Geoff Affleck. “They’re authentic,” she says. “They actually want to help authors succeed.”
Advice for Aspiring Authors
Jordan’s advice to new writers is refreshingly candid and motivational:
- Write what feels right to you. It’s your story; no one else can tell it.
- Be humble enough to ask for help. Mistakes are inevitable, and learning is part of the process.
- Research your craft. Learn from professionals and study your genre.
- Watch your word count. Editors and formatters often charge by the word.
- Stay connected. Subscribe to newsletters or join her own writing community through her website.
- Avoid negativity. Protect your creative energy from those who doubt or discourage you.
- And most importantly, as Crystal Thrasher once told her: “You just don’t give up.”
The Best Advice She Has Ever Heard
The best advice Jordan has ever received is simple but powerful: “Live your life to the fullest because you only get one.” That philosophy drives her writing, her creativity, and her relentless pursuit of excellence.
What She’s Reading Now
Jordan jokes that her current reading material consists of Amazon sales rankings and her pet rabbit’s body language. Between writing, marketing, and daily life, she doesn’t have much time for leisure reading but she keeps her sense of humor alive.
What’s Next for Jordan Standridge
Jordan’s next goal is clear: to hit #1 on Amazon and do it again to prove it wasn’t luck. Beyond that, she plans to finish the many novels she has started and build a strong backlist of emotionally powerful stories that celebrate courage and resilience.
If Stranded on a Desert Island
If Jordan were stranded on a desert island, her reading list would be as eclectic as her imagination:
- How to Survive on a Desert Island for Dummies
- Black Beauty by Anna Sewell, a reminder of compassion and empathy for animals.
- The Secret by Julie Garwood, her favorite novel and a tribute to her inspiration.
- The Black Stallion by Walter Farley, a story of hope and endurance that reminds her of home.
“I’ve always dreamed of living in a quiet, remote cabin in the mountains,” she says. “But a desert island? Too much salt water for me.”
