Where awesome book readers meet awesome writers.
Today we meet Jo Alexander, a remarkable author whose path to writing was anything but ordinary. After successful careers in the military, business, agriculture, and management, Jo found a new calling later in life storytelling. His dedication, discipline, and insatiable curiosity have led to the creation of the Random Destiny Series, a sweeping adventure that combines depth, imagination, and human truth.
Meet Jo Alexander
Jo Alexander describes himself as a lifelong reader turned late-blooming author. “Since childhood, I devoured books,” he shares. “One night, I found myself with nothing to read, and boredom turned into inspiration. An idea began to form, and before I knew it, I was typing paragraphs into my computer. Eighteen months later, I had written the first three books of what became the Random Destiny Series.”
The journey wasn’t easy. Without modern digital tools, Jo relied on over 150 reference books for research. “Some days I rewrote paragraphs; other days, entire chapters. The characters developed minds of their own,” he recalls. “It was a challenge but also a joy.”
Now, with his first trilogy completed, Jo continues to expand his creative universe with several new books in progress.
About His Latest Projects
Jo Alexander is currently working on three different books at the same time, each with its own unique concept and emotional depth.
1. The Next Chapter in the Random Destiny Series
Jo admits he left a few threads unresolved in the third installment, so he’s working on a fourth “Sword” book to complete the saga. Fans can expect more of the epic adventure, moral complexity, and rich storytelling that made the first three novels so engaging.
2. The Redeemer Project
The second work explores a question that has fascinated thinkers for centuries: What if the universe gave Earth someone capable of fixing our world’s chaos? Not a divine savior, but a human being blessed or cursed with immunity from the consequences of his actions. “It’s my response to a universal longing for redemption,” Jo says. “And it may grow into an entire series.”
3. The Fugitive Story
The third novel follows a privileged man living under a death sentence. He has everything but a future. When he rescues a young woman from danger, their fates intertwine, and suddenly two governments’ intelligence agencies are after them. “It’s a story about survival, courage, and the unexpected cost of doing the right thing,” Jo reveals.
His Writing Habits
Jo’s creative rhythm thrives in silence. “I do my best work at night, in the early hours,” he explains. “When the world is quiet, my imagination takes over.”
For him, writing is a mix of discipline and freedom. He researches extensively but also allows his characters to shape the story as it unfolds.
Authors Who Inspire Him
Over the years, Jo has drawn inspiration from a wide range of authors. He grew up reading Wilbur Smith and later devoured works by Clive Cussler, Len Deighton, Robert Ludlum, Frederick Forsyth, and Jeffrey Archer.
However, two writers stand above the rest:
- J.R.R. Tolkien, for his unmatched imagination and craftsmanship. “Tolkien’s world-building inspired an entire genre,” Jo says with admiration.
- Bernard Cornwell, for his exceptional research and realism. “His historical accuracy and storytelling dedication are simply awe-inspiring,” he adds.
Jo’s respect for these literary giants drives his own commitment to authenticity and depth.
Promoting His Books
When it comes to promotion, Jo keeps things simple. “So far, Awesome Gang has been a great platform,” he says. Like many independent authors, he believes word-of-mouth and authentic storytelling remain the best marketing tools.
Advice for Aspiring Writers
Jo’s advice to new authors is both humble and encouraging:
“If you have the time and resources to write, go for it.”
He believes that everyone has stories worth telling, and persistence is what separates an idea from a finished book. “Writing isn’t about perfection it’s about passion and perseverance.”
The Best Advice He’s Ever Heard
Jo recalls one timeless piece of wisdom that guides him in both life and writing:
“You have two ears and one mouth listen twice and talk once.”
For him, this simple truth applies not only to communication but also to character development. “Writers must observe, listen, and understand before they can create believable people on the page.”
What He’s Reading Now
As always, Jo’s reading list is full of research materials for his upcoming novels. His curiosity spans history, philosophy, and human psychology subjects that help him weave authenticity into his fiction.
What’s Next for Jo Alexander
“The creative mind takes you to unexpected places at unexpected times,” Jo says. “Right now, I’m focused on finishing the next three books, but who knows what’s beyond that?”
His approach to writing remains open-ended. For Jo, storytelling is not about controlling the journey it’s about discovering it.
If Stranded on a Desert Island
When asked what books he would bring to a deserted island, Jo answers with humor:
“Probably three or four books on how to survive on a desert island!”
It’s a fitting response from a man who has spent a lifetime adapting, learning, and creating both in life and on the page.
